Talking with a friend the other day, we realized how much we took Japanese alcohol for granted. It’s cheap, it’s readily available, and while age-verification laws exist, they are not strictly enforced by any means.
Going back to Canada where liquor stores close at a certain time, and require 2 pieces of ID always, is always a culture shock.
Actually the truth is I don’t drink very much, and I’m not a fan of hard liquor, so I quite appreciate the 3-4% fruity cocktails that can be bought at the nearby convenience store, 24 hours a day.
